It's migration time -- time to book an East African safari

The animal migrations make for the best East African safariYou may have seen the National Geographic specials or seen pictures, but there's absolutely nothing like witnessing firsthand the migration of some 3 million wildebeest and zebra as they move from the Serengeti in Tanzania to the Masai Mara in Kenya in search of life-giving pasture. It's the best an East African safari offers.

For many, the best safaris in Africa include bearing witness to this spectacular event. And following the herds are predators that feast along the way. Watching a hunt and a kill is a highlight of an African wildlife safari experience. It's nature at its rawest and most elemental. On my last visit, it was amazing to sit in a vehicle watching a herd of zebra, with lions using our vehicles as cover as they staked out and strategized their attack.  Have you had an amazing African wildlife safari experience to share?  And if you haven't been, for your best adventure travel in Africa, remember our Africa travel experts are on call for you.

What about seeking out the white lion on your African wildlife safari

seeing a white lion on the best safaris in africaThere are many reasons to seek out adventure travel vacation packages in Africa. For most travelers, the best safaris in africa are comprised of incredible game park resorts, phenomenal and breathtaking wildlife sightings, and to be touched by the warm and caring hospitality. From the personal experiences my colleagues and I have had on African wildlife safaris, there was also a spiritual component that's impossible to describe unless you experience it firsthand. You can't take a photo of it, and as with most of the world's amazing destinatiuons, photos can't do justice to being there -- in person.

Likewise, Southern Africa or East Africa isn't a place you can visit just once and feel completely fulfilled about the experience. It's a place to return to. Adventure travel in Africa is perhaps like white water rafting -- you can revisit the same river, but the experience is never the same. If you've been maybe you can share your experience.

One of the more unusual African wildlife safari sightings would be the white lion (pictured here). They can be spotted in the Timbavati region or on the Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, one of South Africa's private reserves, where efforts are being made to reintroduce white lions into the wild through a rehabiliation program.

Africa is also one of the best family vacation destinations. It's an amazing place for children to learn about nature and become in awe of it. Our Africa travel experts are eager to arrange your best Africa safari trip.

On tour in Kenya on an African safari

Thursday, June 10, 2010 by Dan Ilves

Flying into Nairobi at 4am seemed kinda crazy, but it was great….we were met and whisked off to the Norfolk Hotel and in bed by 5am…traffic is nasty in Nairobi so getting in at 4am was a breeze…Norfolk was fabulous after Fairmont did it up beautifully.

Micato Tours, one of the suppliers we use in East Africa,  has a resident liaison at the hotel so we were always looked after, if only just to go to a museum on our own the first day. Our safari digs were superb and our tour guide who never left us. He was so knowledgeable and such a charming man: full of interesting conversation and fine sense of humor, as well as giving us a fabulous insight into Kenya/Africa…..We stayed at the following places in the bush:

Amboseli, Tortilis- a lovely small tented camp with a view of Mt Kilimanjaro. Lovely couple runs it and makes it feel like home. Tent is very eco-friendly and well done. Food was very good. Micato uses their own safari vehicles here and it is great…I like the pop-up roof enclosed cars like Micato’s better than the open air vehicles. They have a fabulous family tent: spacious 2 bedroom, 2 bath shared living space in the center with the view..really excellent. Animal viewing was excellent

Loisaba in Laikipia (pronouned lye-KEEP-ya) Plateau- It was truly over the top; the terrain here is much denser and the accommodations are set atop a hill over a valley. It is formerly a home that has 7 rooms on property, as well as a house for rent that is extraordinary (sleeps 4), and a property with sleeping for 6-8, self contained. All properties will take care of you superbly…the main property where we stayed was a touch of colonialism with its luxury and clientele…with different terrain they offer camel riding in the bush, 4×4 riding, star beds (sleeping out in the open with nets and protection above the ground in a snazzy place with dinner), use of their vehicles, bush walks, and probably anything else you want….it was marvy.

Fairmont Masa Safari Club-truly lovely tented cabin on a large property with 50 cabins. Main lodge for eating and viewing of the Mara River and the hippos!! Great viewing! Offers mostly game rides 2x per day and we got a walk in the bush one morning….a lovely setting with Fairmont casual elegance.

Micato, one of our preferred African safari suppliers,  did it all for us…gifts every night on the pillow, always in touch with the planes to know when we would fly out of each place, flexible, and just plain great to be in their hands. Highly recommended and of course, we can make your East Africa travel arrangements.
